Bread making in the rain

With the rain and bugs making noon-hour gardening impossible, Jess and I set out to make some bread. Nothing fancy this time--just plain brown bread for sandwiches.

One of the joys of working from home is popping food in the oven during my afternoon coffee break and smelling it cook while finishing up some papers.

We managed two loaves--a nice nine-inch one and a crazily misshapen six-inch one. They turned out delicious, with some home-made apple-cinnamon jelly from last year.

Up next: If the weather cooperates, we'll pick some strawberries this weekend and make some jam and preserves. The day lilies on the side of the house have also sprung to life depspite the rain and look lovely.
